Through small shifts, we can create larger accessibility for wider audiences. This blueprint maps out the ideal situation for communication with Professor Weaver. Good lighting, standing at an appropriate distance or location, the use of an interpreter, and if necessary standing near her right ear are just a few ways to meet Abbey’s communication needs. She is able to shift and change as a chameleon to meet people where they are whether through sign language, speech, the written word, or in between on the communication continuum. Different people will have various needs and preferred communication styles; thus, leading to a necessity for us to adopt a flexible mindset to respectfully meet people where they are and foster greater inclusion. She also needs flexibility regarding how one communicates due to the rapid changes in the modern world from the old TTY she took to college to the modern videophone. One way of communicating or one access point (accommodation) does not work 100% of the time.
